Event Details
Returning to the Newhall Family Theatre is the Newhallywood Silent Film Festival presented by the City of Santa Clarita. The 2026 Newhallywood Silent Film Festival celebrates the film heritage of the Santa Clarita Valley and the film industry before the introduction of sound. This year’s festival honors Rudolph Valentino, the Latin Lover; and Director/Writer/Producer F.W. Murnau.
At 4:00 pm, join us for a screening of the Rudolph Valentino film Blood and Sand. Released in 1922, this film tells the story of Juan Gallardo (Valentino) who is one the greatest matadors in Spain. Having achieved fame and fortune, Gallardo is drawn down a path of temptation. See why this was one of the top-grossing films of 1922. (Running time is 80 minutes)
Beginning at 8:00 pm is the induction of the Latin Lover, Rudolph Valentino, into the Newhallywood Silent Film Festival Hall of Fame and 100th anniversary screening of the film The Son of the Sheik. The son of the sheik and a dancing girl fall in love, but when he is made to believe she has betrayed him: he seeks revenge. This film marks the end of Valentino’s career, as he tragically passed away a month after it’s release. Join us for this classic film that was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress in 2003. (Running time is 80 minutes).
**Important note regarding parking: street parking is very limited. The Old Town Newhall Library parking lot, as well as the structure across the street, are located within short walking distance of the Newhall Family Theatre for the Performing Arts.**
